Staff joins Spring Valley Particpants' Budget Plan, Invites the Community, too

“Live like no one else, so later you can live like no one else.”

Dave Ramsey –

The Spring Valley participants have a number of requirements they must follow to be part of our program. They include curfew, no guests, attending classes, and meeting with a counselor weekly and their case manager twice a week. One of the key items reviewed while meeting with their case manager is their household budget. Every penny in and out has to be accounted for. It is a rigorous process, but we hear – eventually –is one of the most lasting, practical and impacting lessons they learn.

Like many of us, prior to this budgeting experience, the participants live in the moment financially. They don’t have a plan to prioritize their spending, have been overwhelmed when they start to get behind and are spending more than they are earning.

Many of our successful participants leave with money for an apartment deposit and rent, have begun to pay down debt and have money in an emergency savings fund. They have a plan to handle their obligations and understand the impact of increasing their income to help them move further toward their financial goals.

With pressures on everyone’s budgets, the CCA staff is inviting everyone to join us this Lenten season as we attempt to lead by example by committing ourselves to this rigorous budgeting process. Today on our website, you will find the budgeting worksheet our participants use as well as the instructions they follow. You may prefer to use something else as the tracking vehicle, but the focus is on the diligent tracking and planning our money. The point is not to stop spending, but instead to make good choices and be wholly aware of where money is going.

When you start to really evaluate spending, it gives you a reason to prioritize where money is going. Sometimes, we have expenses that are recurring and just haven’t been update or stopped.

Please consider joining us in this endeavor. We know it has benefitted many households who have left Spring Valley and look forward to how it will help our households, too.

Here are some tools to help you on the journey:
